However, Dr Narendra Jadhav, principal adviser and chief economist, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now preparing for yet another big day – the release of an full length Marathi feature film based on his life by director Ramesh More.

Salaam is the first Indian movie based on the life of an financial wizard and is inspired by Dr Jadhav''s autobiographical novel – Amcha Baap Aan Amhi.

Even as he was preparing his annual financial reports a month ago, Jadhav got a call from More informing him about the completion of the movie. "I did not even know that it was being made. Frankly, I was hesitant about the film," admits Jadhav.

The film chronicles the life of a poor teenage boy who wants to make it big. The boy comes across a person who narrates Jadhav''s experiences -- his journey as a Dalit from a slum to the corridors of the financial world. The young boy''s struggle is a direct reflection of Jadhav''s own background. Jadhav''s reaction after watching the film? "The message of the book has been effectively conveyed. It is not a bitter Dalit outcry."

Tipped to take over the top slot in the Indian financial world in the coming years, Jadhav however, prefers to remain low key about his big screen debut. He says that he has come a long way from a man who kept on asking himself ''Why me?'' after every achievement, to becoming a leading financial policymaker who now questions, ''Why not?'' For him the shift from money matters, to literature and now the silver screen has been smooth. He and More are planning to show the movie in city schools.
